SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched from Space Launch Complex 4 East at Vandenberg Space Force Base early today at 12:47 a.m. EST. The rocket’s upper stage reached its initial orbit about nine minutes after liftoff and successfully deployed its Starlink payload, designated Group 17-30, approximately an hour later.
SpaceX later confirmed the milestone on social media, announcing that all 25 Starlink satellites had been successfully released.
The mission also marked another successful reuse of Falcon 9’s first stage, Booster 1093, which completed its 13th flight and landed safely on the drone ship Of Course I Still Love You stationed in the Pacific Ocean.
These newly launched satellites expand SpaceX’s Starlink constellation, which now consists of about 9,500 operational units. The network delivers broadband internet to remote and underserved regions, supports in-flight connectivity for airlines, and enables direct satellite-to-cellphone communication for emergency use.
This launch was SpaceX’s ninth mission of the year and the company’s 592nd launch overall since it began operations in 2010.
